“My husband and I recently eloped to St Helena, Napa, California. Being from out of country, planning an elopement and finding the perfect professionals to make our day was a scary thing for me. “Chantel was my wedding photographer for my and my husband Nick’s wedding in early October in Oakland. Since I live in Chicago and Oakland was a destination wedding for us, I didn’t spend much time speaking with photographers, but instead pored over wedding photographers’ portfolios online. I wanted to work with Chantel because of her style shooting style and highly saturated color. I also liked the way she shoots people in live, unposed. A lot of other wedding photographers like to do dramatic things with the scenery and nature, which I think is fine for art’s sake but for me, I wanted my photos to be all about the people and capturing the best moments of the day. Isn’t that what a wedding is all about?

In person, Chantel is as nice as they get. She was very easygoing, and helped me walk in my high heels and dress when I struggled up and down hills after the first look. I like that Chantel directed our poses since we know nothing about that. The other guests were relaxed and her presence wasn’t “intrusive.” My mom didn’t realize Chantel and her second shooter were at dinner until the photos came out! Speaking of turnaround on the photos, our parents were really pleased that they came out so soon after our wedding, and that so many photos were taken. Since a bunch of my relatives didn’t make the trip out from the east coast, they were able to get a real play-by-play of the events of the day through the photos.

“Chantel was great and easy to work with. Even though we didn’t tell her the right place to meet us, she gave us a call, showed up promptly where we were, and didn’t even bat an eyelash.

As a photographer, she made use of the surrounding environment and lighting and explained out loud what she was going for. Thankfully, there were no cheesy photos, but she was also receptive to what we were looking to achieve.

At the reception, she looked natural—she didn’t stand out as a photographer at all—and she was very discreet.

“We chose Chantel to photograph us and a small party of immediate family after getting married in Sacramento. She was very professional over the phone and quick to return emails and messages. She suggested the idea of using some props in our “elopement pictures”, which made the session a lot of fun and resulted in really wonderful photos around the Capitol. She made sure we went to areas with the best lighting and had great ideas of places to use as back drops while also incorporating our suggestions. The portraits make us look great, but she was also able to capture some of our fun loving and goofy style in some of the shots. The delivery of our photos came in a very nice package as well. “We booked Chantel for our wedding photographer and it was one of the best decisions we made.

Chantel won my confidence super early on, when one of my bridesmaids’ dress began to fall apart. We started panicking and squawking for a pin and almost immediately, Chantel produced a whole box of pins in her utility belt! Safety pins, bobby pins, everything. It was amazing! It told us that Chantel was not only very experienced, she also cared about her clients and their weddings.

Throughout the day, Chantel was upbeat, friendly, and professional. She was great at switching gears and keeping things moving. For example, if we wanted to do grandparent pics but the grandparents weren’t ready, Chantel switched to groomsmen without missing a beat. We also had plenty of people requesting portraits that weren’t on the original photo list and nothing phased her. We were married in early October at S.F. City Hall. She showed up early at our hotel for bride and groom prep photos and immediately put all at ease with her manner. It is immediately obvious Chantel knows exactly what she is doing.
